History

The fair began in 1879 as the Edmonton Exhibition, held by the Edmonton Agricultural Society at the original Fort Edmonton site.2 In the 1960s it leaned into Edmonton's gold rush past and became Klondike Days; CBC dates that theme to 1962.210 Northlands renamed it Capital EX in 2006, then ran an online vote in 2012 that brought back the K-Days name for the following summer.11 Pandemic restrictions stopped the 2020 and 2021 fairs, and Explore Edmonton took over running it from Northlands in July 2021.12

Getting there

  • By train: take the Capital Line LRT to Coliseum Station. Gate 1 connects to it by a pedway.3
  • By car: the official page points drivers to the Coliseum lots and the East Lot, reached by Wayne Gretzky Drive and 116 Avenue, and posts road-construction notes each year.3
  • By bike: self-serve racks at Gate 1 (by the LRT) and Gate 2 (73 Street and Borden Park Road). Bring your own lock.1

Accessibility

  • The grounds are paved, with ramps and elevators, and every public parking lot and gate is wheelchair and stroller accessible.1
  • Access 2 card holders can bring a support person on a complimentary admission; the card holder still needs ride tickets or a Ride-All-Day pass to ride.1

Good to know

From the organiser's own FAQ.

  • Gate tickets are available, but ride passes and ride tickets can only be bought once you're inside.1
  • Children 6 and under get onto the grounds free, but need their own ride ticket or Ride-All-Day pass to ride.1
  • Concerts are included with general admission; Front & Centre Fan Zone and Premium Tent tickets cost extra.1
  • There was no K-Days parade in 2026.1

Worked out from the sources

Not stated outright by the organiser. This is our arithmetic from the sources cited, so treat it as a strong hint, not an announcement.

  • The 2026 fair opened on a Friday and closed on a Sunday, ten days later. That shape matches the ten-day run the official FAQ describes.1
  • With 2020 and 2021 cancelled and the handover in July 2021, the 2022 fair was the first one Explore Edmonton ran.12

What we couldn't confirm

  • 2027 dates. Not announced on the official site as of the check date. We will add them when KDays publishes them, and not before.
  • The exact year the Klondike Days name was first used. CBC (2006) says the gold rush theme dates to 1962; the official About page says only "the 1960s". We have not found a primary record.
  • Attendance for 2022 to 2026. We found no official figure on the KDays site.
  • Whether a parade returns in future years.
